Kenny Chesney seems like the sort of man who would be keen to keep his affairs to himself. And for the most part, he has...until now. Most recently Chesney has spoken up about his failed marriage to actress Rene Zellweger (which only lasted 130 days). Chesney gave an interview to Star Magazine where he basically seemed to place blame solely on himself, and the media. The intense fascination in the tabloids has often spelled doom for high profile celebrity marriages. Chesney says that he still thinks of his former wife with fondness, although these days he has been seen palling around with new girlfriend, 24-year-old Amy Colley. After the divorce, rumors were circulating that Chesney is gay. He has emphatically denied all of the reports. Kenny Chesney and Rene Zellweger married on May 9, 2005 on the small island of St. John; this was after their brief meeting at a tsunami relief benefit concert. After a mere four months of happily married bliss or maybe not so much they announced their intent to file for annulment (which was finalized in December of that year).
Kenny Chesney may have run into a few hiccups throughout his private life, but these days he seems to be riding the waves of success in his career as a country music artist (although that also got off to a slow start). His debut album, In My Wildest Dreams, which was released in 1993, failed to generate much buzz in the industry and the label soon folded. Chesney, not one to be deterred, plowed forward and issued his follow-up album, All I Need to Know on the BNA label. The record was buoyed by the immediate success of the Top Ten hits "All I Need to Know" and "Fall in Love." This was just the beginning.
Chesney found further success with 1996's Me and You and 1997's I Will Stand. His major industry breakthrough came with Everywhere We Go, which dropped in 1999. It ended up selling over two million copies and spawned two number one hits with "You Had Me from Hello" and "How Forever Feels." The Greatest Hits album was right on the heels of Everywhere We Go, and it became Chesney's second straight double-platinum album.
Fans were holding their breath in anticipation when No Shirt, No Shoes, No Problem officially arrived in early 2002. It was his strongest showing in the industry yet. It rocketed to the very top of the Country Album charts and featured four Top Ten singles with: "Young," "The Good Stuff," "A Lot of Things Different" and "Big Star." In 2004, he won Album of the Year for When the Sun Goes Down.
Another hot album arrived in all its glory in 2007, called Just Who I Am-Poets & Pirates. His most recent record came in the form of Lucky Old Sun in October 2008.
